Preparation for Introduction of bill: After working with a legislator to develop a proposed bill, the drafter provides the legislator with a completed draft. Once approved by the legislator, the drafter submits a copy to the Bill Processing office of the Legislative Drafting Division. The Bill Processing office (1) proofreads and makes corrections to the bill as needed, (2) formats the bill , and (3) prepares an “e-jacket” that will document the sponsor(s) signature(s). The proposed bill bears a large “D” in the upper right-hand corner to denote that it is a draft copy. Once the bill draft is fully prepared, the Bill Processing office releases an electronic copy and accompanying e-jacket to the legislator. The text of the bill is still confidential and will become public only when and if the legislator chooses to file it.
