Subcommittee
The Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations will examine North Carolina’s prisons and focus on the rationale behind the executive branch’s decision to release more than 4,200 criminals early as part of a COVID-era settlement agreement. The committee is also charged with reviewing our state’s prison system and justice-related topics, including, but not limited to unpaid bills, staffing and salaries, processes and documentation of early release decisions including pardons and commutations, healthcare, facility locations, consolidation, programming, re-entry, recidivism, the Justice Reinvestment Act, and community support.
