{"id":4496,"date":"2023-05-17T17:03:53","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T17:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.ncleg.gov\/library\/?p=4496"},"modified":"2023-05-17T17:05:37","modified_gmt":"2023-05-17T17:05:37","slug":"nc-abortion-bill-override","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.ncleg.gov\/library\/nc-abortion-bill-override\/","title":{"rendered":"NC abortion bill (S.B. 20) override"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On May 4, 2023, the North Carolina General Assembly passed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncleg.gov\/BillLookUp\/2023\/s20\">S.B. 20<\/a>, the Care for Women, Children, and Families Act, which outlaws abortion in North Carolina after 12 weeks of pregnancy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Cooper <a href=\"https:\/\/webservices.ncleg.gov\/ViewBillDocument\/2023\/5632\/0\/S20-BILL-NBC-10569\">vetoed<\/a> the bill, and on May 16, the General Assembly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncleg.gov\/Legislation\/Votes\/RollCallVoteTranscript\/2023\/H\/380\">overrode<\/a> the veto.
