Per G.S. 120-76<\/a>, as amended by S.L. 2022-6<\/a>, “The individual making the report may, at the individual’s discretion, remain anonymous. Any report received under this subdivision, in whatever form, is confidential, shall not be a public record, as defined by G.S. 132-1<\/a>, and becomes available to the public only as provided in G.S. 120-131<\/a>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whistleblower protections for State employees<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

General Statute \u00a7126-84(a)<\/a> states, “It is the policy of this State that State employees shall have a duty to report verbally or in writing to their supervisor, department head, or other appropriate authority, evidence of activity by a State agency or State employee constituting…a violation of State or federal law, rule or regulation; fraud; a misappropriation of State resources; a substantial and specific danger to the public health and safety; or gross mismanagement, a gross waste of monies, or gross abuse of authority.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
